Terms of Service

1. Who we are and what we provide

My Acolyte is a subscription service that helps applicants prepare postgraduate research applications. We provide AI-assisted drafting tools for statements of purpose, academic CVs, cover letters, motivation letters and research proposals, a place to track opportunities and deadlines, and an optional human review service delivered by experienced reviewers.

We are a support service only. We are not a university, an admissions office, an immigration adviser or an academic institution, and we are not affiliated with or endorsed by any university whose opportunities appear in the app.

2. Eligibility and your account

You must be at least 16 years old to use My Acolyte. You are responsible for the accuracy of the information in your account and for keeping access to your account secure. One account is for one person; accounts must not be shared, resold or used on behalf of multiple applicants.

You may close your account at any time from your Settings page. See our Privacy Policy for what happens to your data when you do.

3. No guarantee of admission or funding

Admissions and funding decisions are made entirely by universities, supervisors and funders. Nothing in My Acolyte is a promise, prediction or guarantee of an offer, an interview, a scholarship or any other outcome. Our strength indicators, AI suggestions and reviewer feedback are guidance, not assessments of your prospects.

You remain responsible for every application you submit, including checking that it meets the institution’s own requirements and deadlines before you send it.

4. AI assistance and academic integrity

Our coaches generate draft text from the information you provide. That output is a starting point for your own writing, and you must review, verify and take ownership of everything you submit. AI can be wrong, can miss context and can produce wording that does not reflect your record.

Many institutions have rules on the use of AI in applications. You are responsible for knowing and following the rules of every institution you apply to. You must not use My Acolyte to fabricate qualifications, publications, employment, references or any other claim, or to misrepresent someone else’s work as your own. We may suspend accounts used for this purpose.

5. Human review service

Where you purchase a document or full-application review, a reviewer reads your submitted draft and returns written feedback and annotations. Standard reviews are returned within seven days of submission. Reviews with a priority add-on are returned by the end of the next working day, where a working day is Monday to Friday excluding bank holidays in England and Wales.

Reviews are editorial feedback on your writing. Reviewers do not write your application for you, do not contact institutions on your behalf and do not act as referees. Once a review has been delivered it is treated as fulfilled.

6. Plans, payment and fair use

Subscriptions are billed in advance on a monthly cycle through our payment processor, Stripe. Your plan renews automatically until you cancel. Cancelling stops the next renewal; your plan benefits remain until the end of the period you have already paid for.

Each plan includes a monthly allowance of coach messages, a limit on how many applications you can work on at once, and where applicable an allowance of human reviews. Monthly allowances reset at each renewal and do not roll over. Credits you buy outright, such as message top-ups and review credits, remain on your account until you use them.

We may change prices or plan contents. If a change affects your current subscription we will tell you before it applies to your next renewal, and you may cancel before it takes effect.

Allowances are for your own applications. Automated access, bulk generation, resale of output, or sharing an account across applicants is not fair use, and we may limit or suspend accounts that do so.

7. Your content and our platform

You keep all rights in the material you put into My Acolyte and in the documents you produce with it. You grant us only the limited permission needed to run the service for you: to store your material, to process it through our AI providers to generate the drafts you ask for, and to show it to a reviewer when you submit it for review.

The platform itself — the software, the interface, our prompts, templates and structured guidance — remains ours. You may not copy, reverse engineer, scrape or resell any part of it.

8. Availability

We work to keep My Acolyte available and reliable, but we do not promise uninterrupted service. Maintenance, third-party outages and faults happen. Keep your own copies of important documents; you can export your data at any time from your Settings page.

9. Liability

Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law, including for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud.

Subject to that, we are not liable for unsuccessful applications, missed deadlines, decisions made by institutions, loss of opportunity, or any indirect or consequential loss. Where we are found liable, our total liability to you is limited to the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the event giving rise to the claim.

If you are a consumer, you have statutory rights that these terms do not affect.

10. Suspension and termination

We may suspend or close an account that breaches these terms, is used for fraud or abuse, or puts our reviewers or other users at risk. Where it is reasonable to do so we will tell you why and give you a chance to put things right. If we close your account without cause we will refund any unused portion of your current subscription period.

11. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms as the service develops. We will post the revised version here with a new "last updated" date, and where a change materially affects your rights we will notify you in the app or by email. Continuing to use My Acolyte after a change means you accept the revised terms.

12. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have exclusive jurisdiction, except that if you are a consumer resident elsewhere in the United Kingdom you may also bring proceedings in your local courts.
